Resize and compress video — resolution, bitrate, file size and aspect ratio

Change a video’s resolution, bitrate, frame rate and aspect ratio, or compress it to a target file size, with a live size estimate. It runs on your device’s hardware encoder in the browser — your video is never uploaded.

Your files stay on your device: they are processed in this browser tab’s memory and never uploaded.

Resolution The shorter side of the video gets this many pixels.

Resolution, bitrate and frame rate

Pick a resolution preset or enter exact pixels, then control quality with a bitrate in Mbps — or type the file size you need and the tool calculates the bitrate for you.

Aspect ratio for every platform

Switch to 9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9 and more. Crop fills the new frame from the centre; Fit keeps the whole picture with bars.

FAQ

How accurate is “target size”?

The video is encoded at a constant bitrate calculated from the size and length, so it comes out at or a little under the size you set — if an encoder overshoots, the tool re-encodes once more to fit.

Which codec is used?

H.264 in MP4 for the widest compatibility, or VP9/VP8 in WebM.

Can I remove the audio?

Yes — untick Keep audio.

When do you need a video resizer?

Creators reframe horizontal footage to 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok or to 1:1 and 4:5 for the feed; anyone stuck on an upload limit compresses a clip to 25 MB for Discord, 16 MB for WhatsApp or 2 GB for email services; marketers downscale 4K masters to 1080p or 720p for websites and ads; teachers shrink lecture recordings for learning platforms; and editors lower bitrate and frame rate to make proxies or lighter review copies.
